This image shows a craniosynostosis in a 18 months-old child. Looking at the 3D-scanner, it is evident that skull and face are not symmetric. The cranial axis is turned, growing centres are sealed, and skull is deviated backwards and face left.
This is a typical unicoronal craniosynostosis. It not only affects skull, but the face is also abnormal. So it is convenient to surgically proceed with this patients as soon as possible. It only stops when growth finishes; by that moment, surgery is much more diffcult and risky, and results are far less good.
Some surgeons try to drop some cement in deep-set areas, and to file-down prominences. We prefer to make a real modelation of the skull, wich may correct the growing patterns, and lets the intracranial organs and cerebrum grow normally.
If this is your child´s case, please contact us as soon as possible and send us a pictures of your child and the 3D-scans.
